Enrollment Applications

~ NOTE ~

Families of students interested in attending Ventura Charter School must apply through a lottery application to attend an independent charter public school.

 


Application Window 2025-2026

(Oct 1, 2024 – February 19, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.)

  • All K-8 applicants regardless of their home address must submit an application. Although enrollment preferences per our charter petition are available (see below), a lottery for admission will be utilized if there are more applicants than available space.

(Oct 1, 2024 – February 19, 2025 at 4:00 p.m.)

Submit an Application 

 

  1. Download PDF and complete.
  2. Submit completed application one of three ways:
  3. Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2025 to enter Kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year.
  4. All incoming students must be fully immunized or have a valid medical exemption. Please visit shots for school website for more information on the immunizations required for school entry.

Enrollment

  1. Acceptance to the school is based on availability of space. 
  2. Applications and waiting lists are valid until the following year's lottery. 
  3. Students not admitted during the school year must submit a new application for the lottery each year.

Lottery Drawing

The lottery application window for the 2025-26 school year will open on October 1 at 9:00 a.m. and close on February 19 at 4:00 p.m.

Post Lottery

  • If your lottery application is not received by February 19 at 4:00 p.m., your application will be considered post-lottery.
  • Post-lottery applicants will not be included in the lottery drawing.
  • Late applicants will be placed at the end of the waiting list after the drawing. They will be placed in the order of submission. 
  • Post-Lottery applications will open after 4:00 p.m. on February 19.

Admissions & Waitlist 

  • From the lottery drawing, a list will be created of those students who will be offered enrollment and those who will be on a waitlist.
  • Students who are being offered enrollment will be notified approximately one (1) to two (2) weeks after the drawing.
  • Students on the waitlist will be contacted by email and phone as openings become available.
  • NOTE: If you are looking for information about enrolling in VCS for the current 2024-25 school year, contact the Enrollment Coordinator, April McClure by email.

Program Preferences

If the number of students who wish to attend Ventura Charter School exceeds the School's capacity, enrollment will be determined by a public random drawing (lottery). Preference shall be extended to pupils currently attending Ventura Charter School, and then other preferences are based on the following list, in order of priority:

  1. Children of staff (not to exceed 10% of the total student population).
  2. Siblings of students currently enrolled (and continuing the following year) in the school.
  3. Applicants who reside within the boundaries of E.P. Foster Elementary School in the Ventura Unified School District*.
  4. Applicants who reside within the boundaries of the Ventura Unified School District.* 
  5. Applicants who reside in Ventura County and adjacent counties.

* All applicant addresses will be independently verified. Applicants found to have used a fraudulent address will be barred from entering the lottery for a full year
